“A Latin soul charmer” – Washington Post
“Influenced by old-school masters like Wilson Pickett, Shuggie Otis, and the Exciters, Rene encompasses the very soul of soul.”– New York Post
Rene Lopez recently tore the house down during his residency at NYC’s legendary NUBLU last month. If you missed it, you’re in luck because the folks at “Live at the Loft” captured some of the magic and filmed Rene performing “I Flow.” (look closely and you might even catch Mario Batali dancing his ass off). The studio version of the song will appear on his upcoming full-length ELS, which will be released August 30th on Nat Geo Music. The album features co-producers Mario Caldato Jr., a.k.a. Mario C (Beastie Boys, Jack Johnson, Bebel Gilberto) and Jason Lader (Julian Casablancas, Jenny Lewis), as well as special guests Joey Altruda, and Money Mark (John Butler Trio).
ELS is an acronym for “Electric Latin Soul,” a term Rene coined to describe his genre-bending style of music. It’s a combination of latin soul and boogaloo with elements of rock, pop, and nods to electronic music. The sound is a celebration of Rene’s dual identity as both a native New Yorker and a second generation Puerto Rican American.
You can catch Rene live in Montauk, NY at The Surf Lodge on July 9th, with more New York City shows to be scheduled soon.
