The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation® announced today that it is accepting applications for the Carlos Vives Scholarship from music students accepted to Berklee College of Music, who are interested in Latin music. The four-year scholarship, which holds a maximum value of $200,000 USD, will be awarded towards a bachelor’s degree.
Singer, composer, actor, businessman, and 11-time Latin GRAMMY and two-time GRAMMY winner Carlos Vives, is one of the most emblematic artists and one of the most important figures of Latin music. With more than 20 million records sold worldwide, he is considered a pioneer of the new Colombian and Latin American sounds. “The ability to support a new generation of Latin musicians brings me great joy,” said Carlos Vives. “Being able to do this alongside the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation makes this even more special.”
The Carlos Vives Scholarship presented by the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation was created in an effort to support music education and the Latin music genres and will be awarded to a student who is exceptionally gifted and needs financial assistance to continue their education. The applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, which is comprised of diverse music professionals with extensive industry experience. “It is an honor for us, that with the help of Carlos Vives we can support the new generation of musicians through a scholarship that will allow them to receive an education of the highest quality at Berklee College of Music,” said Manolo Díaz, Sr. Vice President of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation. “Carlos Vives not only represents excellence and musical achievement, but he will also transform the lives of the scholarship beneficiary.”

As part of the process, students must complete two audition videos, submit two letters of recommendation and answer two essay questions. The materials can be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese. The deadline to apply is April 10, 2018, by 11:59 p.m. ET (United States time). La Fundación Cultural Latin GRAMMY anunció hoy que está aceptando solicitudes para la Beca Carlos Vives de estudiantes de música admitidos a Berklee College of Music que estén interesados en la música latina. La beca de cuatro años, con un valor máximo de $200,000 USD, se otorgará para cursar una licenciatura.
El cantante, compositor, actor, empresario y ganador de 11 Latin GRAMMYs y dos GRAMMYs, Carlos Vives es uno de los artistas más emblemáticos y una de las figuras más importantes de la música latina. Con más de 20 millones de discos vendidos en todo el mundo, es considerado un pionero del nuevo sonido colombiano y latinoamericano. “Poder apoyar a una nueva generación de músicos latinos es algo que me produce una gran felicidad, poderlo hacer de la mano de la Fundación Cultural Latin GRAMMY es algo que lo hace más especial,” dijo Vives. “Por eso hemos creado la Beca Carlos Vives para que un talento latino pueda acceder a los mejores estudios y a las mejores escuelas.”
