Cecilia Villar Eljuri (‘Eljuri’) is immersed in the process of bringing a new album to life. “I continue to look at myself, my journeys passed and my path forward – I’m evolving and embracing it,” says Eljuri. She has tentatively titled the album, ‘La Lucha’ (‘The Fight’) which alludes to her lyrical messages of global significance.

Leaning on her successful 20-year history as a musician, leader, innovator and mentor, Cecilia Villar Eljuri has decided to self-produce this, her third solo album. With support from her manager, Alexandra Gatje from Manovill Records who steps up again as Executive Producer for the project, they have cherry picked their dream team for the recording, production, mixing, mastering and promotion of this collection of songs.

While touring in Mexico, United States, Colombia and debuting in Canada in support of her previous album ‘Fuerte’, Eljuri was gathering the meaning and inspiration for this her third solo album. Self described primarily as a songwriter, Eljuri found herself digging deeper than ever into discovering both her Spanish and Lebanese roots. So, she built her dream home studio, a creative oasis in which to craft and fine-tune the introspective lyrics and rich melodies before making the selection of the eleven tracks to include on this album.

Currently recording in Manhattan’s historic SOHO district at Downtown Music Studios with Zach Hancock and Dan Fyfe, Manovill Records paired Eljuri with this studio particularly for their focus on pristine audio production, and fresh rich musical history (Adele, Amadou & Mariam, Kendrick Lamar).

Zach says, “Occasionally a gig comes our way that represents an opportunity to for us to grow musically. In every sense, the Eljuri sessions have been one of those gigs.” Recording together for the first time, Teese Gohl (Nana Vasconcelos, Dave Stewart, John Forte) lends Eljuri his considerable talents as Vocal Supervisor. Eljuri is thrilled to get these tracks to Gustavo Borner (Elton John, Julieta Venegas, Carlos Santana) of igloo music in Los Angeles. As the producer of her last album, ‘Fuerte’, the multi-Grammy winner will mix and master this album.

Playing on the strengths of each member of the Eljuri ‘family’, Cecilia has called once again on the complex rhythms and deep pocket of her long-time drummer, Alex Alexander (David Bowie, Eminem, Youssou N’Dour). The bass performances are split between Johnny Pisano (Deborah Harry, Marky Ramone, Ryan Adams) who rocks the tunes reflecting a funky edge and Tracy Wormworth (B52s, Sting, Wayne Shorter) whose phat and groove-driven bass lines push the pulse of Eljuri’s songs. Reconnecting for the third time with the infamous reggae duo Sly & Robbie, Eljuri collaborates with them on a heartfelt latin-tinged roots reggae song.

A few weeks ago at the Mamapalooza Festival, Eljuri played two of her new tunes during a performance linked to the NYC Parks Summer on the Hudson music series. She and her musicians expressed great excitement to play these songs live, feel their effect on a welcoming audience and release some of the pent up energy that built up in the recording studio.

Expect the new disc to include tunes from this compulsive genre-fuser ranging from latin-inflected reggae, to trip-hop flavored bolero featuring layers upon layers of her vocal hooks and harmonies and iconic guitar solos and licks. With this collection of songs, Eljuri reaffirms her relevance in a constantly changing global music landscape.

En vísperas de lanzar su tercer álbum solista, la cantante, compositora y guitarrista Cecilia Villar Eljuri comenta: “En la composición de este nuevo álbum continuo mirando adentro de mi, mis jornadas son largas pero mi camino sigue adelante y estoy inmersa en la producción de mi nuevo álbum…” Llena de la energía que sólo se desprende al crear, Eljuri se encuentra en el estudio de grabación finalizando lo que será su próximo disco de el título tentativo ‘La Lucha’, y que sin duda incluye su manera global de sentir.

Con la experiencia de 20 años de historia en la música esta ‘artivista’ ha decidido ser la productora de su tercer álbum. Con el apoyo de su aliada y manager Alexandra Gatje de Manovill Records como productora ejecutiva, seleccionaron el talentoso equipo para la grabación, producción, mezcla, masterización y la promoción de esta nueva colección de canciones.

Tras lanzar ‘Fuerte’ su segundo álbum en solitario y con él recorrer plazas importantes de México, Estados Unidos, Colombia e incursionar en Canadá, Eljuri fue dándole sentido a su siguiente y tercer álbum. Como escritora Eljuri esta vez ha llegado a raíces profundas que no había explorado antes, pues por sus venas corre sangre latina y libanesa con lo que ahora como ríos artísticos que se unen las ha dejado fluir para darle forma a melodías y letras sólidas antes de seleccionar las 11 canciones del álbum.

La grabación la realizaron en el histórico barrio de SOHO en los Downtown Music Studios siendo los ingenieros de grabación Zach Hancock y Dan Fyfe, justamente pensando en la línea de trabajo de ambos recientemente (Adele, Amadou & Mariam, Kendrick Lamar).

Al respecto de la grabación Zach comenta: “Ocasionalmente un evento se atraviesa en nuestro camino y nos dan la oportunidad de crecer y sucede que las sesiones de trabajo con Eljuri son uno de ‘esos’ sucesos.”

La mezcla y masterización de las nuevas canciones las realizará por segunda ocasión Gustavo Borner (Elton John, Julieta Venegas, Carlos Santana), ganador de múltiples premios Grammy, en los igloo studios en Los Angeles.

Para la grabación Cecilia recurrió a la fortaleza de su equipo y nuevamente incluyó a su amigo y compañero el excepcional baterista Alex Alexander (David Bowie, Eminem, Youssou N’Dour) y el bajo lo dividió con sesiones de Johnny Pisano (Deborah Harry, Marky Ramone, Ryan Adams) que refleja muy bien la parte del sentir mas funky y Tracy Wormworth (B52s, Sting, Wayne Shorter) cuyo flow y groove se incluyen muy bien en la canciones de Eljuri.

Pero además, nuevamente y por tercera vez trabajó con el maravilloso dueto de reggae Sly & Robbie quienes colaboraron en una de las nuevas piezas impregnándolas de su esencia de reggae latino.

Como suele suceder con las bandas que gozan y cuidan cada canción Eljuri compartió por primera vez dos de sus nuevas canciones en el Mamapalooza Fest NYC Parkas Summer on the Hudson. Las canciones fueron muy bien recibidas y fue una especie de banderazo de salida el arranque oficial.

Lo nuevo de Eljuri llevará la fuerza y compromiso en sus letras desde las raíces latinas que desplazarán del reggae al trip-hop con toques de bolero impregandas todas de la armonía y singularidad maravillosa de sus guitarras. Con esta colección de canciones, Eljuri reafirma su relevancia en un paisaje en constante cambio global de música.
