September 7th will be a special date for Julieta Venegas. During her performance at Berklee Performance Center of Boston, she will receive the Master of Latin Music Award, a special honor that Berklee gives since 2014 to the most influential Latin artist, which paves the way for new generations.
The Master of Latin Music Award honors musicians who exemplify the practices and values of Berklee Latino and Berklee Latin Music Studies, which explores Latin, Brazilian, Caribbean, Afro-Cuban, and other styles to develop an understanding of both the performance aspects of Latin music and the history and cultures from which it was born and continues to thrive. Other recipients include Magos Herrera, Armando Manzanero, Fito Páez, Rubén Rada, Totó la Momposina, Susana Baca and Carlos Vives.
Julieta Venegas was born in Mexico and is currently one of the most famous artists and composers in Latin America, Spain, and US Latin market. After studying eight years of classical piano, Julieta began to play music as a member of the alternative rock group Tijuana No!
When she turned 20, she moved to Mexico City. Animated by her fellow musicians, she recorded her first two albums with the prestigious Argentinean producer Gustavo Santaolalla (Café Tacuba, Juanes, Jorge Drexler). Then she started to be required for a lot of collaborations; and composed the main song for the film Amores Perros, directed by the Oscar-winner Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu.
With her albums “Sí ” (2003) and “Limón y Sal ” (2006), Julieta Venegas managed to run as one of the greatest Latin American artists. She sold 8 million albums and achieved a GRAMMY® Award, 5 Latin GRAMMY®s and 8 MTV awards.
Julieta Venegas became a unique artist by fusing Mexican popular music such as the ranchera, with pop, and often with her accordion as the main thread.
The show at Berklee Performance Center is part of Venega’s “Parte Mía Tour 2017 ”, and is produced by Owl Master Booking. This represents a new challenge in her career. For the first time, she undertakes a tour accompanied on stage by Matias Saavedra and Sergio Silva, two of his usual great musicians. All of them are multi-instrumentalists, accordions, guitars, keyboards and percussions sound for Julieta’s greatest hits as Me Voy, Limón y Sal or Andar Conmigo, along with many other songs from her repertoire that they acquire now a new approach, with the artist exposed to her audience in a much closer, natural and magical way, a unique musical experience.

El próximo 7 de septiembre será una fecha especial para Julieta Venegas. Durante su presentación en el Berklee Performance Center de Boston, la artista mexicana recibirá el Master of Latin Music Award, un reconocimiento especial que la prestigiosa institución entrega desde 2014 a las figuras latinas más influyentes y que marcan el camino a seguir para las nuevas generaciones.
El Master of Latin Music Award reconoce a músicos que representan los valores y las prácticas de Berklee Latino y de Berklee Latin Music Studies, que exploran la música latina, brasilera, caribeña, afrocubana, entre otros estilos, para desarrollar un entendimiento tanto de los aspectos performáticos de la música latina como de la historia y las culturas de donde nacieron y siguen prosperando. Entre los músicos premiados se incluyen Magos Herrera, Armando Manzanero, Fito Páez, Rubén Rada, Totó la Momposina, Susana Baca and Carlos Vives.
Nacida en Tijuana, México, Julieta Venegas es actualmente una de las artistas y compositoras más conocidas de todo Latinoamérica. Después de estudiar durante ocho años piano clásico hasta su adolescencia, Julieta empezó a despuntar como integrante del grupo de rock alternativo Tijuana No!. Apenas cumplió los 20, decidió irse a vivir a México DF. Allí, animada por sus compañeros músicos, grabó sus dos primeros discos de la mano del prestigioso productor argentino Gustavo Santaolalla (Juanes, Café Tacuba, Jorge Drexler, etc).
En ese momento fue requerida para una multitud de colaboraciones y compuso la canción principal de la película Amores Perros, dirigida por Alejandro González Iñarritu. Sin embargo, en 2003, con su álbum “Sí ” y posteriormente en 2006 con “Limón y sal “, Julieta Venegas consiguió postularse como una de las más grandes artistas latinoamericanas. Con ellos logró 8 millones de discos vendidos, además de un premio GRAMMY®, 6 GRAMMY®s Latinos y 8 galardones MTV.
La manera de fusionar la música popular mexicana como la ranchera, con el pop, y muchas veces, con su acordeón como hilo conductor, hacen de Julieta una artista única. Además, está comprometida en su faceta social: es Embajadora de Buena Voluntad de Unicef y es frecuente verla defendiendo los derechos de la mujer o el derecho a la lectura universal.
El show del 7 de septiembre, producido por Owl Master Booking, será en el marco del “Parte Mía Tour 2017”, que supone un nuevo reto en la carrera de Julieta Venegas. Por primera vez emprende una gira acompañada en escena por Matías Saavedra y Sergio Silva, dos de sus grandes músicos habituales. Entre los tres, todos ellos multiinstrumentistas, los acordeones, guitarras, teclados y percusiones suenan para los grandes éxitos de Julieta (Me voy, Limón y Sal, Andar Conmigo) junto con otras muchas canciones de su repertorio que adquieren ahora un nuevo enfoque, con la artista expuesta a su público de manera mucho más cercana, natural y mágica. Una cita irrepetible.
