The talented Colombian singer-songwriter and actress, JULIANA, winner of the 2021 Latin GRAMMY for Best New Artist and recently nominated at the 25th edition of the Latin GRAMMY Awards for “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album” with her record Mar Adentro, is back with her fourth single of the year, titled “La Colombiana.” This song will also be part of her highly anticipated album set to be released in February 2025.
La Colombiana is a powerful, flavorful, danceable cumbia filled with energy, showcasing that Colombian women are strong, tenacious, charming, and deserving of a real, genuine, and healthy love—not one that plays with their emotions. “There’s nothing more dangerous than a wounded woman, especially a Colombian one,” as their love is unforgettable, wrapping you in their magic, charisma, and boundless display of authenticity and courage.
The song delves into the pain of betrayal against a Colombian woman. As Juliana herself says, Colombian women “are goddesses, we are the cumbia, but when we are hurt, the cumbia becomes dangerous.” The track was composed in Los Angeles under the direction of songwriters Andrés Torres and Mauricio Rengifo, renowned for producing hits like Despacito and now La Colombiana. Juliana also contributed as part of the songwriting team for this track.
La Colombiana is undoubtedly one of my favorite songs of my life so far because it’s a profound homage to the music traditionally heard in Colombia during New Year’s celebrations. It’s a song that captures the essence of what December 31st feels like in Colombia. I deeply love the Christmas classics of Pastor López, Los 50 de Joselito, Gloria Estefan, Rodolfo Aicardi, and all those iconic songs that are so typical of Latin American festivities,” says Juliana.
Since Totó la Momposina, there hasn’t been a song that speaks about Colombian women, their character, resilience, and strength. That’s when Juliana realized she needed to take on the challenge of composing a cumbia that embodies and embraces the world like the New Year’s Eve cumbias of her country.
La Colombiana follows her previous musical successes: Manhattan in collaboration with the Venezuelan duo Lagos, San Fernando, and En el 320 alongside Mexican artist Marco Mares. Together, these tracks weave a story full of dance, color, vibrant rhythms, and countless incredible anecdotes, culminating in the brilliance of La Pista.
The music video for this new single was filmed in downtown Bogotá with a 100% Colombian team, led by Juliana, Juancho Muñoz, La Ruta, and Mun Entertainment. It captures the festive and joyful end-of-year atmosphere. The video features a cast of well-known Colombian actors, including Mariana Gómez, Marcelo Cezán, Yaneth Waldman, and the beautiful appearance of Carlota, Juliana’s mother, who made her debut in her daughter’s video.
Handkerchiefs were a unique symbol in the choreography of La Colombiana, adding a special and unforgettable touch to the festive vibe of the video.
On another note, the Colombian artist was one of the hosts of the Latin GRAMMY Premiere on November 14th, alongside María Becerra and Luísa Sonza, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The event was broadcast live on all platforms of the Latin Recording Academy and featured musical performances by Fonseca, Leonel García, Grupo Niche, Draco Rosa, Rozalén, and others.
This November, Juliana will be on tour in Mexico, bringing her music to major cities across the country.
Puebla – 28 de Noviembre – (Sala Forum)
Querétaro – 29 de Noviembre – ( Sala Arpa)
Guadalajara – 30 de Noviembre – (C3 Rooftop)
Finally, in 2025, Juliana is gearing up to deliver an unforgettable show in Bogotá at the iconic Movistar Arena on May 23rd. She will perform her latest releases as well as the musical repertoire that has established her as the fastest-growing and most artistically recognized singer in the country.
