With an artistic career spanning 25 years, successful Panamanian singer-songwriter Erika Ender continues to make history by being one of only two women chosen this year, as well as the youngest ever, to be induced into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame / ‘La Musa Awards’.
This morning Desmond Child, Rudy Perez and Emilio Estefan announced at a press conference held at the Estefan Kitchen restaurant, the names of the songwriters chosen to enter the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 2017. Among them, Ender stood out as the only woman in her category and the youngest-ever to be chosen to the Hall of Fame. The composers will officially be induced into the Hall during the fifth annual ceremony of the La Musa Awards to be held on October 19, 2017. The complete list of this year’s inductees includes: Erika Ender, Ana Gabriel, Roberto Livi, Fher Olvera, Martin Urieta and Camilo Sesto with a posthumous tribute to Julio Jaramillo.
Ender reacted to the great honor saying: “I am extremely honored by this recognition, which confirms my responsibility and commitment to the arts; which I seek to perform with passion and excellence, taking into account that songs are emotions made music, capable of touching and transforming lives, and even of becoming the soundtrack that marks important moments of those who listen and adopt them as their own. These 25 years of experience, have brought me wonderful moments and this, without a doubt, is one of the most important, not only to be able to share the Hall of Fame with colleagues that I have always loved and admired, always, but for being one of the few women who are a part of it. It is a nice way to empower women in this industry, so that our sensitivity continues to touch hearts and leaving marks, that are immortalized in the history of Latin music¨.
Ender has taken Panama to the top of the charts throughout the world, standing out as a woman who has made history, not only for her country, but worldwide. She is the first and only Panamanian woman to win a Latin Grammy as a composer, as well as one of the few Hispanic women to do so.
She has written songs in Spanish, English and Portuguese for countless international artists such as Luis Fonsi, Gloria Trevi, Justin Bieber, Los Tigres del Norte, Son by Four, Ednita Nazario, Chayanne, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Leonardo (Brazil), among others.
Her most recent success and the fastest-rising mega hit song of her career is “Despacito” which she co-wrote with Luis Fonsi. The song performed by Fonsi and Daddy Yankee has remained for at #1 more than 12 weeks on the Billboard charts and in the top of the charts on iTunes and Spotify, including being the only Latin song ever to reach the Global #1. Recently, Canadian pop star Justin Bieber added to the success of the song by recording a remix version where he sings in English and Spanish.
With 40 top singles in multiple markets, more than 160 albums released with her songs in different genres ranging from pop to regional Mexican, the 42-year-old Panamanian, who began her artistic career at age 16, had her first songs recorded by renown artists over 20 years ago by stars from Mexico and South America. Ender has been the winner of the most important awards in the industry including the Latin Grammy, Latin Billboard, Monitor Latino, SESAC, ASCAP, as well as other awards and nominations.
Erika recently sang at the opening ceremony of the 2017 Special Olympics Latin American Games, and this week, on April 26th she will participate in the Songwriters Panel at Billboard’s Latin Music Conference. In addition, through her Puertas Abiertas Foundation, she has been working since 2009 for children and youth in her country, through music, improving the lives of children and youth eradicated from child labor or at social risk. She has also launched TALENPRO (Talent with Purpose), a National Intercollegiate Festival that exposes and cultivates the artistic talents of school-age children, while at the same time instilling values, culture and social responsibility in the students.
The Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, created in October 2012 in Miami, is dedicated to educating, honoring and celebrating the lives and music of the world’s greatest Latin songwriters and composers. Erika Ender’s name now joins those of other musical greats like Armando Manzanero, Agustín Lara, Gustavo Santaolalla, Carlos Gardel, Jose Feliciano, Julio Iglesias, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Draco Rosa and Claudia Brant, among others, who have entered this prestigious Hall of Fame.

Con más de 25 años de trayectoria artística, la exitosa compositora panameña Erika Ender sigue haciendo historia y llevando el nombre, tanto de su país, como de Hispanoamérica, en alto, siendo una de las pocas mujeres y la persona más joven que ingresa al Salón de la Fama de los Compositores Latinos / ‘La Musa Awards’.
Este lunes 24 de abril, Desmond Child, Rudy Pérez y Emilio Estefan, anunciaron en una conferencia de prensa en el restaurante Estefan Kitchen, los nombres de los compositores elegidos del 2017, entre los que destacó Ender como la única mujer en su categoría (de compositora) y la más joven en ser ingresada a dicho Salón de la Fama. Los compositores ingresarán oficialmente al Salón durante la quinta ceremonia anual de los Premios La Musa a celebrarse el 19 de octubre de 2017. La lista completa de los compositores elegidos este año incluye a: Erika Ender, Ana Gabriel, Roberto Livi, Fher Olvera, Martín Urieta y Camilo Sesto con un homenaje póstumo a Julio Jaramillo.
Respecto a este momento, Ender dijo: “Me siento sumamente honrada por este reconocimiento, que confirma mi responsabilidad y compromiso con el arte; mismo que busco realizar con pasión y excelencia, tomando en cuenta que las canciones son emociones hechas música, capaces de tocar y transformar vidas e, incluso, de convertirse en el soundtrack que marca momentos importantes de quienes las escuchan y adoptan como suyas. Estos 25 años de trayectoria, me han traído momentos maravillosos y éste, sin duda es uno de los más importantes, no solo por poder compartir el Salón de la Fama junto a colegas que quiero y admiro tanto, desde siempre, sino por ser una de las pocas mujeres que forman parte del mismo. Es una linda forma de empoderar a las mujeres en esta industria, para que nuestra sensibilidad siga tocando corazones y dejando marcas, que queden inmortalizadas en la historia de la música latina¨.
Ender ha llevado a Panamá a los primeros lugares alrededor del mundo destacándose como una mujer que ha hecho historia, no sólo para su país sino a nivel mundial. Es la primera y única mujer panameña en ganar un LATIN GRAMMY como compositora, al igual que una de las pocas y contadas hispanas en lograrlo.
Ha compuesto canciones en español, inglés y portugués para un sinnúmero de artistas internacionales como Luis Fonsi, Gloria Trevi, Justin Bieber, Los Tigres del Norte, Son by Four, Ednita Nazario, Chayanne, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Leonardo (Brasil), entre otros.
Su éxito más reciente y el más acelerado de su carrera es el tema “Despacito” que co-escribió al lado de Luis Fonsi. El Salón de la Fama de Compositores Latinos fue creado en octubre del 2012 en la ciudad de Miami, se dedica a educar, honrar y celebrar las vidas y la música de los mayores cantautores y compositores latinos. Ahora el nombre de Erika Ender se suma al de otros grandes de la música y la canción como Armando Manzanero, Agustín Lara, Gustavo Santaolalla, Carlos Gardel, José Feliciano, Julio Iglesias, Gloria y Emilio Estefan, Draco Rosa y Claudia Brant entre otros que han ingresado a este prestigioso Salón de la Fama.
