Hialeah Park Racing & Casino will host the 1st Annual “Pig Cook Off”, featuring a bragging rights cooking competition between police and fire departments from throughout Miami-Dade County, and a free concert by local country music sensation Ricky Valido, on Sunday February 28, 2016.

“We plan to make this an annual event to raise money for local causes,” said Vivian Casáls-Munoz, Director of Events at Hialeah Park. “This year, we will donate the proceeds to the family of Baby Alex, a two-year-old child who is suffering from leukemia.”

The “Pig Cook Off” will be open to Hialeah Park visitors from 12 noon to sundown on the final Sunday of the 2015-16 live quarter horse racing meet, traditionally one of the most well-attended days of the season.

“We expect to have 10-15 different police and fire departments involved in the cooking competition,” Casáls-Munoz added. “We’ll have secret judges sampling all the food and voting to decide the cook off winners.”

Visitors attending the 1st Annual “Pig Cook Off,” which is free of admission and parking charges, will be able to purchase wristbands that allow them to sample the various food offerings.

After sundown, Valido and his band, The Hialeah Hillbillies, will take the stage for their third concert at Hialeah Park. Valido, a homegrown rising star in the music industry, called his first show at this historic venue in 2013 “a breakthrough” for his career.

Hialeah Park Racing & Casino, with entrances at 100 East 32nd Street and 2200 East 4th Avenue, is easily accessible from all major Miami highways. The landmark venue is conveniently located just minutes by car from Miami International Airport, South Beach, Downtown Miami, Coral Gables, and Doral.
