Yotuel, founder and leader of the band Orishas, two time winner of the Latin Grammy, and nominated eight times for the prestigious award, has confirmed his performance at the annual ceremony La Musa Awards. This event will be held at The Fillmore Miami Beach Jackie Gleason Theater on October 15thth, presented by WorldArts, in collaboration with Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority and The City of Miami Beach.
Yotuel will join a long list of accomplished stars that will also perform during the ceremony, such as Fonseca, Gloria Estefan, Quincy Jones, Café Tacvba, Alejandra Guzmán, Rita Moreno, Diego Torres and Beto Cuevas, among others
His latest collaboration as a songwriter and producer was with Ricky Martin with the song La Mordidita, hitting the top selling and radio charts in many countries in Europe, Latin America and the United States. Besides collaborating with other artists and producers, Yotuel is currently preparing his first solo album, Gentleman De Calle.
Yotuel’s story is one of hard work and hard knocks. He started out in the streets of Havana with the rap group Amenaza and became the leader of the urban movement in the island. When he moved to Paris, Yotuel formed Orishas, regarded as one of the most influential international urban bands. As a result, the prestigious magazine Time included them in a special edition of the best 100 bands in the history, which was edited by some of the greatest critics in the country. Orishas was the only Hispanic band featured in this edition, which included important bands like Radiohead and The Beatles.
With Orishas, Yotuel has performed in important festivals across the globe like Lowlands (Holland), Roskilde Festival (Denmark) and Rock in Rio (Portugal and Spain), where he shared stage with legends like Company Segundo, Los Van Van, Iggy Pop, Cypress Hill, Red Hot Chili Peppers,Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray, Manu Chao and The Deftones. Their songs have been included as part of the soundtrack of great Hollywood productions like Fast and the Furious, Bad Boys 2, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, Antikiller, Along Came Polly and El Benny.
Furthermore, as an actor, his role in the show Un paso adelante (Globomedia/Antena 3), gave him great popularity in countries like Spain, Italy and Russia, and today it’s still the most successful Spanish show internationally. In the big screen, his most notable roles are in Perfecto Amor Equivocado, directed by Gerardo Chijona (Spanish-Cuban co-production) and El Baile De San Juan (Mexico-Spain). He will soon have his debut with a leading role in El Acompañante, directed by Pavel Girout. The film was recently screened during most recent Cannes Festival in May 2015.
Dionne Warwick, Paul Williams, Cristian de la Fuente, Omar Alfanno, Lena Burke, Fantine, Beatriz Luengo and Yotuel, as well as exciting new artists Isabela Moner and Anthony De La Torre which will be appearing on stage at this year’s Latin Songwriters Hall Of Fame 2015 La Musa Awards which will be directed by Richard Jay-Alexander. The 45 piece La Musa Orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Eduardo Marturet of the Miami Symphony Orchestra.
