Earlier this week, Bomba Estéreo kicked off their “Jungla” tour in Mexico selling out the Pepsi Center in Mexico City, a venue of 4,000 capacity. During the press conference hosted by Sony Music Mexico, the Colombian band was awarded with DIAMOND Record in Mexico for 60 Million streams of their hit single To My Love (Tainy Remix).
With this achievement, Bomba is on the heels of the breakthrough success of the biggest commercial hit of their career, the “To My Love (Tainy Remix).” The remix was produced by acclaimed Puerto Rican producer Tainy and released on the Amanecer (Remixed) digital album in December 2016. However, it did not start catching on until last winter (December 2017), as it began bubbling up as an organic hit in Mexico. The song now has more than 400 million total streams. Additionally, Bomba has more than 5 million Spotify monthly listeners and is one of the Top 500 most listened to artists on the platform.
Also, last month, the Colombian stars have received 3 Latin GRAMMY nominations for songs off its latest album Ayo. The anthem “Internacionales” was nominated for “Record Of The Year” and “Best Urban Fusion.” Its video was directed by Torben Kjelstrup, the Danish filmmaker who directed the band’s viral “Soy Yo” video and filmed across the globe from Toronto to Morocco and Hong Kong.
“Internacionales” is a statement about how music is the biggest and most beautiful language that crosses all barriers,” Bomba’s founder Simon Mejia says. “Independent of race and culture, we’re all the same when it comes to sharing the dance floor.”
The band’s official “Duele” video, directed by Sam Mason, was nominated for “Best Music Video.” “Duele” is about the pain of heartbreak and overcoming it. While the music’s melody line recalls a Middle Eastern influence, it was recorded on a flauta de millo – the traditional woodwind instrument often played on classic cumbia recordings from the Caribbean coast of Colombia. The song was recorded in the Sierra Nevada mountain town of Minca, near Liliana’s hometown of Santa Marta.

A principios de esta semana, Bomba Estéreo emprendió su gira Jungla Tour por México con lleno total en el Pepsi Center de la Ciudad de México ante 4,000 asistentes. Durante una rueda de prensa presentada por Sony Music México, a la banda se le otorgó un Disco de Diamante por superar los 60 millones de streams de su exitoso sencillo To My Love (Tainy Remix)
Sin duda alguna, To My Love (Tainy Remix) se ha convertido en el éxito más grande de su trayectoria. Esta versión es producida por el talentoso puertorriqueño Tainy y formó parte de su álbum digital Amanecer (Remixed) que se editó en diciembre 2016. Fue hasta diciembre 2017 que este tema empezó a convertirse en éxito viral en México. Hasta la fecha, esta canción cuenta con más de 400 millones de streams. Además, Bomba Estéreo tiene más de 5 millones de oyentes cada mes en Spotify y es uno de los 500 artistas más populares de la plataforma.
El mes pasado, este grupo colombiano se hizo acreedor a tres nominaciones al Latin GRAMMY con canciones que se desprenden de su álbum más reciente Ayo. El himno “Internacionales” está nominado en las categorías de “Disco del Año” y “Mejor Fusión/Interpretación Urbana”. Dirigido por Sam Mason, “Duele” está nominado a “Mejor Video Musical” en los Latín GRAMMYs 2018. Esta canción se trata de la superación de un desamor. Su melodía tiene influencias del Medio Oriente pero incorpora la flauta de millo, un instrumento tradicional de las cumbias ejecutadas en la Costa Caribeña de Colombia. “Duele” fue grabada en Minca, un pueblo en la Sierra Nevada cerca de Santa Marta, la ciudad natal de Liliana Saumet, vocalista del grupo.
