Ten-time Grammy winner Arturo Sandoval will release his new album “Ultimate Duets” on May 18th. Marking Sandoval’s first release in five years, and the continuation of a distinguished four-decade catalog of over 30 groundbreaking titles, the album finds artists from the worlds of pop, jazz, classical and Latin music coming together for the Cuban maestro’s first duets release. At the outset of recording, Arturo simply asked each participant to suggest a favorite song they would like to reimagine with the trumpet legend, and the results are as wide-ranging and illustrious as the list of collaborators. The pre-sale for Ultimate Duets” started on friday with the release of first single “Andante, Andante” – featuring the awaited return of the globally recognized voice of ABBA’s Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Sandoval and Lyngstad’s take on the song from the multi-platinum Super Trooper album marked the first time that a member of the Swedish supergroup has returned to the studio to record one of their classics. With eight-time Grammy-winning producer Gregg Field also working on the list of collaborators, the project saw Stevie Wonder choose to record “People” (which he and Sandoval first performed at a Grammy tribute to Barbara Streisand), whereas Prince Royce turned the tables and recorded Stevie Wonder’s “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” as a contemporary Bachata.
Many other magic moments materialized as the project grew, such as Alejandro Sanz (who appears on his own duet of “Corazon Partio”) brilliantly suggesting the addition of guitar legend Vicente Amigo to a flamenco-infused version of Placido Domingo’s classic “Granada”. Participating in the album inspired Pharrell Williams to write the new, personal and specifically titled “Arturo Sandoval” with an invitation also extended to Ariana Grande. At Arturo’s own request to his longtime friend Al Jarreau to revisit the famed hit “After All,” the fellow multiple-Grammy winner decided to write a new spoken word introduction. The addition of “The Pyramids, the China Wall… I’ll still be here After All… Mountains may crumble and stars may fall… I’ll still be here After All.” became even more emotional and timeless as it became Jarreau’s final recording, with the vocalist sadly passing away soon after the song’s completion. Similarly, Sandoval could not envision completing a full duets album without playing alongside the distinctive voice of his beloved friend and Cuban music icon Celia Cruz. The album is rounded out with additional duets with the powerful voice of Josh Groban, revered Dominican maestro Juan Luis Guerra, and Spain’s dynamic pop vocalist David Bisbal (see track listing below).

Arturo Sandoval, ganador de 10 premios Grammy estrenará su nuevo álbum”Ultimate Duets” el 18 de mayo, el primer estreno de Sandoval en cinco años y la continuación de un destacado catálogo con más de 30 temas innovadores. El álbum presenta a artistas del mundo del pop, jazz, música clásica y música latina unidos para el estreno del primer álbum de duetos del maestro Cubano. Al inicio de la grabación, Arturo le solicitó a cada participante que seleccionara su tema favorito y que le gustaría grabar junto a él, y los resultados son increíble al igual que la lista de colaboradores. El viernes 27 de abril comenzó la pre-venta de “Ultimate Duets” con el estreno del primer sencillo “Andante, Andante” – marcando el esperado regreso de la voz reconocida mundialmente de Anni-Frid Lyngstad (ABBA). Sandoval y Lyngstad grabaron la canción del álbum multi-paltino de ABBA Super Trooper, la primera ocasión en que un miembro del grupo sueco regresa al estudio a grabar uno de sus temas clásicos. El productor Gregg Field también trabajó con Stevie Wonder quién seleccionó”People” (tema que presentó junto a Sandoval en un homenaje a Barba Streisand en los Grammy), mientras que Prince Royce decidió “girar la mesa” y grabar la canción de Stevie Wonder “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” al estilo bachata contemporánea.
Muchos otros momentos mágicos se materializaron mientras el proyecto crecía, como Alejandro Sanz (quien realizó el dueto con su aclamado “Corazón Partio”) y quien brillantemente invitó al legendario guitarrista Vicente Amigo para hacer una versión de un clásico de Plácido Domingo”Granada” con una infusión de flamenco. La participación de Pharrell Williams en el proyecto lo inspiró a escribir una nueva canción titulada “Arturo Sandoval” extendiéndole una invitación a Ariana Grande. Por petición de Arturo a su gran amigo Al Jarreau de revisitar el éxitoso “After All,” el ganador de múltiples premios Grammy decidió escribir una nueva introducción. La adición de “The Pyramids, the China Wall… I’ll still be here After All… Mountains may crumble and stars may fall… I’ll still be here After All.” se volvieron más emocionales al convertirse en la última grabación de Al Jarreau ya que falleció a las pocas semanas de terminar la canción.
