Aterciopelados will be visiting the East Coast in October for 3 tour dates in support of lead singer Andrea Echeverri’s new album Dos (released August 30). Dos, the follow up to her Latin Grammy-nominated solo debut, is an intensely personal album with songs about motherhood, identity, collectivity and devotion to the planet. Echeverri, the iconic frontwoman for Aterciopelados, wrote, produced and recorded the entire new album – her first work without assistance from longtime Aterciopelados partner Hector Buitrago.

‘Dos’ has been featured in NPR Alt-Latino Fall music preview and selected as influential Los Angeles radio station KCRW’s Top Tune of the day. Dan Sweeney of the Sun-Sentinel writes, “These are gorgeous, acoustic tunes that Aterciopelados might generate in an unplugged setting, but even that would seem unlikely. And that is one of the great things about the album — all too often, solo releases by someone from a popular band come off as sounding just like that band, only slightly worse, like the throwaways that band left on the cutting-room floor after cobbling together an album. But in this case, Echeverri has produced a work that is wholly her own.”

Recorded in her home studio, ‘Dos’ features eleven songs and is an extension to Echeverri’s self-titled debut about the wonderment of being a new mother. From the upbeat “Paciencia,” a song about keeping patient while being pushed by loved ones to “Yo,”an engaging track about staying true to one’s self, Echeverri continues to be inspired by the adventures of parenthood while maintaining her own identity. Addtionally, she touches on environmentalism with her ode to the planet on “Madre Naturalaza.” On this release, Echeverri also enlists her family’s participation – her husband, mother and daugther sing background vocals throughout the album and her daughter created all the album artwork.

Aside from the Latin Grammy nomination, Echeverri’s self-titled 2005 debut was a critical success. Rolling Stone said “Echeverri’s crystalline vocals soar whenever she desribes her new sense of womanhood – but she has lost none of her humor.” Meanwhile the Chicago Sun-Times gave the album four stars and called her a “quietly understated masterpiece.”

In the past year, Latin Grammy winners Aterciopelados have rocked major stages like Coachella, Bonnaroo and Outside Lands. Their most recent Grammy-nominated album ‘Rio’ found the band at a creative peak with more politically and socially-charged lyrics than ever before.
