Los Angeles, CA (June 6, 2011)—Acclaimed singer songwriter Alih Jey released last week her new album TARTE. To celebrate its release she gave an exciting performance at "The Stage" in Miami where she sang live for the first time the songs that make up the album.
Setlist:
Entertain Me
Carousel
Cherry Pie
Crooked
Girl Afire
(You Always Fall for the) Green Eyed Guitar
A Mi No Me Interesas
Holler Girl
Sharing the stage with Alih Jey and her band where Vic Kingsley, Your Girl of the Night, and Pretty Please.
"To me this was a ‘dream team’ coming together" Alih Jey says of the incredible combination of musicians, all individuals who have significantly contributed to the development of the Miami live music scene. "It’s an honor for me to play with these guys, not to mention extremely fun."
In the performance Alih Jey played her acoustic guitar and the ukulele while the rest of her band consisting of Fernando Perdomo and Jorge Gonzalez Graupera on guitars, Derek Cintron on drums, Vic Kingsley on bass accompanied her.
TARTE is a departure for the Latin GRAMMY nominee who ventures now into her true musical passion, the indie music scene.
The set began with the fun, infectious "Entertain Me," a piece many are familiar with, since Alih would occasionally perform it acoustically while promoting her previous album "Necia." But this time it was accompanied by the amazing band Fernando Perdomo (President of FMR) put together, most of who played on "Tarte" and took it to a whole new level.
Then they moved on to "Carousel," the first single off "Tarte." This catchy tune sees the proverbial ‘girl on the rebound’ surmising adventures to Paris and beyond. You could already hear the audience singing along to the percussive "bonjour"s throughout the song.
Next came "Cherry Pie," a saucy duet with good friend and guitar player Jorges (they co-wrote this song together), about a certain mutual friend who met someone on OK cupid with a big secret (fun fact: Jorges did the graphic design for "Tarte").
Next, the nostalgic, heartfelt "Crooked," a sweet retro ballad with a seed of doo-woop and a dash of wistfulness reminiscent of artists like Nicole Atkins and A Fine Frenzy.
The plugs came off for "Girl Afire," a duet Alih co-wrote with Lucho from Volumen Cero, and invited Vic Kingsley (who opened the night, and played bass with Alih as well) to sing with her. Alih wanted to share this brand new, unrecorded song with her audience, a beautiful bluesy tune with its heart in soul and its hat on intimate, confessional songwriting.
Next came "(You Always Fall for the) Green Eyed Guitar," laced with Alih’s ukulele and a rockabilly drumbeat that had everyone dancing and singing.
Then Alih performed "A Mi No Me Interesas," the Spanish language song of the album, also the single for release in the Latin Market. This piece turned the sound of the ukulele inside out and served everyone a sumptuous taste of Alih’s passionate, sultry side.
To wrap up the luscious TARTE on this indulgent night came the über-electric "Holler girl," an upbeat power pop treat that had everyone bouncing away!
Alih Jey embarks on a promotional tour in support of TARTE that will take her to New York, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and other US cities. Upcoming performances include two in New York on June 3rd and 5th then she’ll return briefly to LA to record videos to both her singles and will play at Bar Lubitsch on June 28th. She’ll also be playing the International Pop Overthrow on August 11th.
TARTE is now available on itunes.
