Listen to «Leaves», the first single from Baile’s latest EP Matter out July 21st on Color Station. Be sure to check out BAILE for a special live performance at Brooklyn’s Palisades on June 20th with Color Station labelmates Shines and Aten Rays.
The stage name of Reed Kackley, Baile makes texturally rich dance music inspired by house and downtempo. The electronic offshoot of Brooklyn band, Silent Rider (of which Reed was frontman) quickly shot to the top of Hype Machine charts with a number of remixes (Daughter, Zhu, Bronze Whale) and caught the attention of boutique Brooklyn/LA-based label Color Station (Akiine, Shines, Gymnast). In fall 2014 the two paired up for Baile’s debut From the Depths EP, a personal collection that earned Reed the title “One of Top 30 Producers to Watch in 2015” by Earmilk.
On the subject of his creative process, Baile explains, “When I’m listening to music I find myself most often drawn to individual sounds and textures within a song rather than the songs as a whole. During the writing process, I focus on juxtaposing raw elements like acoustic percussion or a piano with synthetic ones like a gritty pad or a drum machine, creating something that can feel crisp and clean but also organic and natural. It’s about striving for a really open, clear mix where every nuance of each sound can be heard.”
Baile’s sophomore EP Matter uses minimal, almost escapist instrumentals that feature several vocal collaborations. Two notable tracks, ‘Leaves’ and ‘Matter’ feature Felicia Douglass of Ava Luna. Matter is out July 21st via Color Station.
