Starting April 23rd, Sergent Garcia will be returning to the US for an eleven-date tour featuring the searing blend of Jamaican reggae and dancehall with Afro-Latin grooves that he’s dubbed “salsamuffin.”
A veteran of the French punk and indie rock scenes, Sergent Garcia was inspired by his Spanish roots and passion for Caribbean and Latin music to create a popular sound that earned him a large following across the globe and impressive worldwide sales. The Financial Times has enthusiastically raved, “Fans of Manu Chao will find Sergent Garcia immediately recognizable: insistently catchy reggae and salsa rhythms, sing-song rap, horn riffs propelling the whole mix.”
The tour sees Garcia with his band The Cumbiamuffin All Stars performing in top markets including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, DC and Miami as well as headlinging slots on renowned festivals including two-nights at the LLafayette International Festival and the Houston International Festival. After the release of 2011’s Latin GRAMMY nominated Una y Otra Vez (Time and Time Again) on Cumbancha, Bruno Garcia (who borrowed his stage name from a character in Zorro) has been busy touring the globe and impressing audiences from Japan to Peru with his outstanding live show. The upcoming US tour will showcase new songs alongside classic favorites from Una y Otra Vez and his five previous albums. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch what the SF Chronicle calls“an infectious blend of reggae, cumbia, son, rock and hip-hop.”
In the leadup to the tour, Sergent Garcia has been releasing new music videos to stir excitement and build buzz. The first of three videos to be launched before the tour is for “Meme Si”, a scorching French-language reggae track. The video was filmed in Venice Beach during the band’s 2012 tour and can be seen at http://youtu.be/5uLHdyQFqS0.
