Mexican Alt-Rock Band’s Double Platinum New Album Continues to Garner Acclaim
Culminating a remarkably successful U.S. tour, Zoé members Angel Mosqueda (bass) and Rodrigo Guardiola (drums) will appear at the announcement of the 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY nominations September 14, 8:00 A.M. PST at the Avalon Hollywood in Hollywood, California. The group, Mexico’s biggest rock band, will have just concluded their U.S. tour with a September 11 performance in Anaheim, CA, at Battle of the Dance Theater, a bigger-than-planned venue to which the show has been moved to meet extraordinary demand for tickets.
Zoé has been touring the U.S. in support of its new album, MTV Unplugged/Música de Fondo (EMI), which has earned double platinum certification in Mexico (120,000 albums) and critical acclaim in the U.S., in addition to critical praise for their electrifying live show. Of the Los Angeles concert that kicked off the tour, an LA Weekly reviewer said, "It reminded me of seeing Wilco in 2008 at the Riviera in Chicago. Same incredible sensation…After a slow-but-steady 15-year rise, Zoé is on the brink of becoming legendary."
The tour represents another stage of Zoé’s crossover into the U.S., which began to take hold with the group’s 2009 album Reptilectric and the U.S. tour that followed its release. On that tour, the group recorded a set for KCRW’s influential "Morning Become Eclectic," taped an AOL Sessions feature and performed at the legendary Amoeba Records in Hollywood. The Los Angeles Times declared "Zoé is among the most consistently intelligent and conceptually ambitious of alternative rock en español bands," and said, "The future looks filled with possibility for this thoughtful and compelling Mexican band."
