LR1 (Latinos Are One) is a new musical endeavor that celebrates the diversity and strength of American Latino culture and will also raise funds to assist members of the community in need. Working through his philanthropic organization Music Has No Enemies, in partnership with acclaimed Hispanic creative agency Inspire!, GRAMMY winning producer Andres Levin has brought together three rising Hispanic musicians of different heritages and artistic styles to craft an original song entitled “Maña y Corazón”. Over the course of three days, Levin and Hip-Hop MC Velcro, Jean Shepherd from the rock band Navegante, and singer-songwriter Debi Nova combine their talents to create the unique musical fusion showcasing the current creativity of independent Latin music. Music fans can now visit http://www.latinosareone.com to follow the creative process through a progressive series of video shorts inside the studio, and mark their calendars for the September 13th release of “Maña y Corazón” for the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The Producer
Andres Levin has been proclaimed “the master chef of Urban fusion” by the Los Angeles Times, and the Miami Herald calls him “one of the best and most versatile producers in the Latin alternative world.” In addition to being the creative force behind his own critically-praised Latin Funk collective Yerba Buena, and his pioneering work on acclaimed albums for the Red Hot Organization, Levin has worked with a wide-array of artists such as: John Legend, Natalie Merchant, Rob Thomas, D’Angelo, Macy Gray, Common, David Byrne, Miguel Bose, Orishas, CuCu Diamantes, Aterciopelados, Paulina Rubio, Ely Guerra, Caetano Veloso, and many more. In addition, Levin is a sought-after film & TV composer, having scored films such as El Cantante, Ladron que roba Ladron, and Borderland, while his music has been heard in popular TV shows such as Entourage, CSI Miami, ER and more. Recently, Levin’s field of expertise expanded once again, with several high profile advertising campaigns and a GRAMMY AWARD for his production of the In The Heights cast album. Levin also recently founded the philanthropic organization Music Has No Enemies to produce music content for social causes & non-profit groups. In addition to LR1, These projects have already included the 2009 Latino Inaugural Gala, work with Innocence in Danger and Amnesty International’s “The Price of Silence” in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

A bilingual singer songwriter with multi-instrument capability (including classical piano training), Debi Nova was born and raised in Costa Rica to European parents and then moved to Los Angeles to study Music. It was not long before she was offered a spot as a vocalist touring with Brazilian legend Sergio Mendes, followed by opportunities to work with Ricky Martin, The Black Eyed Peas and more. Her recently released debut album “Luna Neva” on Gustavo Santaolalla’s Surco records has lead to strong reviews and a recent appearance on “Dancing With The Stars”
Velcro
Velcro is the very essence of fusion. Born in Long Beach, CA his multicultural parents passed on their love of music. His Mexican father was a mariachi singer and his Dominican mom played accordion and sang. They moved to Puerto Rico where he won awards as a young writer and poet, before studying Hispanic Literature and Philosophy at Harvard. Today he blends his own diverse roots and melting-pot experience as a bilingual rapper and beat-maker..
Jean
Jean Shepherd’s multicultural roots come from parents of Puerto Rican and Peruvian lineage. He was born in the Bronx, was raised in Miami and eventually settled in Brooklyn. Like his familial roots, his musical influences are diverse, with inspiration in various styles ranging from salsa to jazz, hip-hop, rock, cumbia, and more. That “melting pot” style and his passion for musical fusion is evident in the work of the alternative band he now fronts, Navegante.
