Recording artist Mexia, the American-born eldest son of Hernan Hernandez, co-founder and singer of legendary Mexican group, ‘Los Tigres Del Norte’, has written and recorded TODOS SOMOS ARIZONA in response to his fear and frustration over Arizona’s SB1070, the new law which allows for the detention of people based on their heritage. Mexia wrote the song in an effort to vent his own feelings and to unite young Americans of Mexican descent around a message they could use to show the rest of the world how his generation feels about the repressive new law. “This is my fight songs,” Mexia says. “I feel outrage and an obligation to continue my father’s legacy about speaking for Mexicans and poor people.” Mexia will perform Somos Arizona at the Voto Latino special to air on Univision June 3.

In the song, Mexia raps/sings in Spanglish and says “There’s something wrong with that picture there/ no lo puedo creer, no lo puedo ver, tu forma de ser es lo de ayer/ and we’re Latinos on the rise like blood pressure yeah, trying to control us with fear”.
Mexia, who has dual American and Mexican citizenship says, “I was born and raised here to think that this is the land of the free and the home of the brave but now we have to watch our back in our own backyard. It’s terrible to live in fear. Our grandmother was born in Jerome, Arizona, and we have other family and college age friends who live there. I think ‘What will happen to me if I leave their house without my wallet?’”
Mexia has thought long and hard about the ramifications of the new law. “Government should create a structure within there can be a way to be legally in the U.S. working, instead of taking drastic measures. Remember,” he writes in TODOS SOMOS ARIZONA, “This is our home country built on immigrant blood/we’re all descendants and connected through love.”
Mexia’s album debut, “Past Present and Future” is due out this fall.

El artista de hip-hop Mexia nacido en E.U, hijo mayor de uno de los fundadores e integrante del legendario grupo Mexicano ‘Los Tigres Del Norte’ Hernán Hernández, a compuesto y grabado la canción TODOS SOMOS ARIZONA, como respuesta al miedo y frustración infundida por la ley de inmigración en Arizona SB1070. Mexia tiene doble nacionalidad, Americana-Mexicana y agrega “Me crie con la idea que esta es la tierra de la libertad y de los valientes, pero la realidad es que ya no podemos tener tranquilidad en nuestro propio país, es terrible vivir con miedo. Mi abuela nació en Jerome, Arizona y tenemos familia y amigos que viven en esa misma ciudad. Me pregunto ¿qué me podría pasar si algún día salgo de mi casa sin mi billetera?”
Mexia ha pensado mucho sobre las ramificaciones de la nueva ley “El gobierno debería crear una estructura o plan para permitir a los ilegales trabajar, en vez de tomar medidas tan drásticas” y escribe en su canción “Este es nuestro hogar, construido con la sangre de los inmigrantes, todos somos descendientes y estamos unidos por amor”.
Mexia lanzara al mercado su álbum debut “Past Present and Future” este otoño.
