To underscore the importance of this song, whose original version appears on Musas, Natalia selected the renowned Mexican composer and songwriter Carlos Rivera to sing with her on a special version of this track featuring mariachi accompaniment. The new recording of “Mexicana Hermosa” goes on sale today on all digital-music stores.

Written by Natalia Lafourcade and Gustavo Guerrero, this joyful and passionate song invites us in from the start with woodwinds and guitars. The ambitious and expressive lyrics give us chills, as they make us proud of our roots and our nationality.

“Gustavo Guerrero and I wanted ‘Mexicana Hermosa’ to be special, for it to highlight Mexico’s beauty, for it to be a song of joy, a hymn to women icons, and to nature, to the land. It’s metaphorical. But we also wanted to record a traditional mariachi version for Mexico’s upcoming Independence Day celebrations and we invited Carlos Rivera to sing,” Natalia Lafourcade notes.

Carlos Rivera adds, “I’m very honored that Natalia has invited me to be part of this lovely song, which is dedicated to our country, to that love we feel for Mexico, a land that needs so much love. And what better way to do it than with music. Her song is poetry, and now we’ve recorded it with a mariachi and an orchestra, in a classic style. I feel humbled and happy, and I’m overjoyed to be on this record with her.”

The musical arrangements for “Mexicana Hermosa” are handled by the prestigious producer Kiko Campos. As a songwriter and creative director, he has worked with over 100 artists, including Ricky Martin, Thalía, Paco de Lucía, Lupita D’Alessio, Francisco Céspedes and Alejandro Fernández.

Campos observes: “From the moment I was invited to this project, there was a very good energy and mutual understanding…our intention was to highlight its contrasts. First of all, we showcase the flavor of traditional Mexican music, with a small mariachi like the kind that frequently recorded in the 1940s and ’50s with Miguel Aceves Mejía and was directed by Rubén Fuentes. We wanted to conserve the legacy and spirit of Mariachi Vargas…It’s a very lovely work; it’s a gift for all of us who love music and want to preserve this distinctly Mexican style. How satisfying it is to have these two greats, Natalia and Carlos, be joined by such a solid group of musicians.”

Both vocalists have spent years gaining respect for their outstanding songs and for using their talent to inspire others. This collaboration had to happen sooner or later, and it has come together on a truly timeless song that will make Mexicans everywhere feel pride.

Hace ya varios años que Natalia Lafourcade nos ha deleitado con la calidad de sus composiciones, donde indudablemente destacan la humanidad y amor por su país. “Gustavo Guerrero y yo queríamos que “Mexicana Hermosa” fuera especial; que resaltara la belleza de México, que fuera un canto de alegría, un himno hacia todos esos símbolos femeninos, a la naturaleza, a la tierra. Una canción llena de metáforas. Pero, además, deseábamos hacer una versión con mariachi muy tradicional para estas fiestas patrias e invitar a Carlos Rivera a participar”, comentó Natalia Lafourcade.

“Estoy muy honrado de que Natalia me haya invitado a formar parte de este tema tan bello, que dedica a nuestra patria, a ese amor que sentimos por México, una tierra que necesita tanto amor; y qué mejor que hacerlo con música. Esto es una poesía que ella escribió y que ahora hacemos en versión mariachi y orquesta, que nos recuerda las canciones de antes. Me siento honrado, feliz y me encanta estar con ella”, expresó Carlos Rivera.

El prestigiado productor musical Kiko Campos estuvo a cargo de los arreglos. Como compositor y director creativo ha trabajado con más de 100 intérpretes, entre ellos: Ricky Martin, Thalía, Paco de Lucía, Lupita D’Alessio, Francisco Céspedes y Alejandro Fernández.“Desde el primer momento en que me invitaron a este Proyecto, hubo muy buena vibra y entendimiento. (…). Se trataba de hacer una producción que tuviera varios contrastes. Primero que nada, el sabor de la música tradicional mexicana; con un mariachi pequeño como era en los años 40, 50; la reminiscencia de Miguel Aceves Mejía, Rubén Fuentes, el legado del Mariachi Vargas; conservar ese espíritu. (…) Es un trabajo muy hermoso, es un regalo para todos los que amamos la música y queremos preservar este estilo tan mexicano. Qué bueno que se juntan estos dos grandes talentos, como Natalia y Carlos, y que podamos tener un equipo tan sólido de músicos”, comentó Campos.

Este encuentro musical ocurre tras años de trabajo en que cada artista ha desarrollado más de un camino para su historia. Con este tema se fragua una colaboración que parecía inevitable: dos talentosos artistas mexicanos que han dedicado sus carreras a poner en alto el nombre de su patria.

Recientemente Natalia y Carlos realizaron la grabación del video de este hermoso tema, en donde veremos cómo disfrutaron esta gran celebración a sus raíces mexicanas; acompañados del mariachi y orquesta, entonando con orgullo la letra de “Mexicana Hermosa”.
