With a sultry mix of jazz-inspired vocals, electronic textures and global influences, ‘Lumen’ further develops the sound the Natalia Clavier cultivated while recording and touring with both Thievery Corporation and her husband, Argentinean singer-songwriter Federico Aubele.
Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Natalia was exposed by her mother at an early age to a constant stream of music ranging from classical to jazz, from Argentinean folk to 1970’s Latin American pop and North American soul. She began singing in school choirs at the age of three, and by eleven she was performing as a soloist in the largest concert halls.
Natalia Clavier then moved to Barcelona, where she hit the jazz circuit and launched herself into the electronic music scene contributing vocals to house and techno singles, singing live at raves in front of thousands. In Barcelona she met a fellow Argentinean ex-pat Federico Aubele (who had just released his debut album on Thievery Corporation’s record label ESL Music). The pair became fast friends and Federico asked her to tour with him and eventually, to sing on his new album ‘Panamericana’. The two married in March of 2008 and have continued to collaborate both in the studio and on tours across the globe.
Having always sung in languages other than Spanish, Natalia felt a new calling to express herself in her native tongue. With Federico’s help and support, Natalia composed and recorded her first set of demos, which caught the ear of Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation, who then became the producer of ‘Nectar’, her debut album. Soon Natalia Clavier became ESL Music’s first female artist and the touring vocalist for Thievery Corporation, giving her opportunities to tour the globe performing at the world’s largest festival stages.Tastemaker Radio Station KCRW Premieres Exclusive
