Three-time Grammy-nominated Afro-Caribbean group Tiempo Libre will release Panamericano, their first album for Universal Music Latin Entertainment in partnership with Universal Music Classics on June 30.  Tiempo Libre are seven classically-trained musicians internationally renown for their critically acclaimed, dance-inducing, Latin-fused music.  The first two singles “Dime Que No” and “Somebody to Love Me;” will be commercially available on May 19^th;“Dime Que No” features guest artist Jean Rodriguez and “Somebody to Love Me” features guest artist Yunel Cruz.  Additional artists appearing onPanamericano include  Descemer Bueno, Frankie J, and Luis Fernando Borjas.

“We [Tiempo Libre] have always written songs about our lives – both past and present.  But Panamericano is truly about Tiempo Libre today – living a culturally rich and fulfilling life, personally and musically, in Miami.  We are surrounded by people and influences from all over the US and Latin America who inspire us. And the featured artists on the album reflect that amazing diversity and inspiration.  This is possibly our most personal album yet – and to have it released by Universal Music Latin Entertainment is a dream come true,” says band founder Jorge Gómez.

Celebrated for its tropical music featuring an irresistible, exhilarating mix of jazz harmonies, contemporary sonorities and seductive Latin rhythms, throughout the past 14 years the three-time Grammy-nominated band has appeared on The Tonight Show as well as Live from Lincoln Center, Dancing with the Stars and virtually every entertainment program  on Univision and Telemundo.

Tiempo Libre’s 2015-16 season finds the band promoting the new album in places as far afield as Beijing, China in May, on a two week tour of Spain in July, as well as on a week-long tour in the United Kingdom in November culminating with a performance at the London Jazz Festival.  The band plays in New York City on July 9, July 10 and December 18; Chicago on July 12; Los Angeles on August 13; Santa Rosa (CA) on September 6; and Ridgefield (CT) on December 17.

Tiempo Libre will perform live on stage every night during the five-week run of the new Broadway-bound musical, Cuba Libre, which premieres October 10 in Portland Oregon. Cuba Libre is a contemporary musical based on the collective histories of the band members featuring a book by playwright Carlos Lacámara, the band’s own music, and a company of actors, dancers and musicians.  The production is directed by Artists Repertory Theatre’s Damaso Rodriguez and produced by the award-winning Suzan Dietz (Fela). Told in flashbacks from present-day Miami to 1999, the story follows a young man who confronts the sacrifices made to pursue his artistic dreams in the U.S.

The musicians grew up studying at Havana, Cuba’s rigorous music conservatory La ENA.  Reuniting in Miami years later, they came together during their “free time” (“Tiempo Libre”) from touring and recording with legends such as Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Paulito FG y Su Elite.

Tiempo Libre have performed on the world’s most prestigious stages including Jazz at Lincoln Center; Hong Kong’s Kwai Tsing Theatre; The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; the Tel Aviv Opera House, and Istanbul’s İş Arts and Culture Center. They have played premier festivals including Tanglewood, Ravinia, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, The Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Gwangju World Music Festival in South Korea.During the Divino Tuscany Festival in Cortona, they performed at the Italian villa of Sting and Trudie Styler, who joined their guests on the dance floor.

Tiempo Libre frequently collaborates with many icons of the classical world.  The band recorded Gómez’ “Para Tí,” with violin virtuoso Joshua Bell for his album, At Home with Friends.  Gloria Estefan, Bell and Tiempo Libre performed Gómez’ arrangement of “Christmas Auld Lang Syne” on Bell’s Musical Gifts from Joshua Bell and Friends album.. The group was handpicked by the legendary flautist, Sir James Galway to perform on his album O’Reilly Street, featuring an exciting Latin jazz arrangement of the Claude Bolling Jazz Suites.  They have also performed with leading orchestras including the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Houston, Charlotte, and San Francisco Symphonies.
Tiempo Libre is Jorge Gómez (pianist and musical director), Luis Beltran Castillo (flute and sax), Raul Rodriguez (trumpet), Xavier Mili (lead vocal), Wilvi Rodriguez (bass), Israel Figueroa (drums), and Leandro Gonzalez (congas).  The band most recently released My Secret Radio(Sony Masterworks), its previous albums Bach in Havana (Sony Masterworks), Arroz Con Mango (Shanachie) and Lo Que Esperabas(Shanachie) were all nominated for Grammys.

 Elogiada por su música tropical, Tiempo Libre fusiona armonías irresistibles derivadas del Jazz, junto a sonidos contemporáneos y ritmos seductores y cautivantes, Tiempo Libre ha aparecido en programas de televisión en el mundo anglosajón y latino respectivamente, incluyendo “The Tonight Show, Live from Lincoln Center”, “Dancing with the Stars”, “Despierta América” y muchos más.
