Desmond Child, co-founder of the Hall of Fame of Composers Latino, advocates for the rights of composers against the reduction of royalties in the current musical broadcast system called Streaming. “Many times your song is a successful performer and becomes a product on the market that also sold or rented digitally via streaming, generates other income such as merchandising, items of clothing and brands. But rarely songwriter or composer will see a royalty of that, “he said, adding that when people search for a song or video on the internet, for example the success” the name of Livin ‘La Vida Loca “appears interpreter – Ricky Martin but not in this case the authors Desmond Child and Robi Draco Rosa. Currently it is promoted in Congress a bill called Songwriters Equity Act, which seeks royalties charged by a song are shared more equitably. With the decline in physical and digital sales of music sold and the adoption of streaming and broadcast system and consumption of it, the royalty paid by song to record labels and artists is 96%, while for the authors is 4%. Previously, with record sales royalties are distributed by halves. “We have to fight to change that,” he said.

Known in the art world as Desmond Child, John Charles Barrett celebrated 36 years as a composer. In 1979 he won with “Our Love Is Insane” Rouge group, and “I Was Made For Loving You” the group KISS. In his long list of works include “Livin ‘on a Prayer” and “You Give Love a Bad Name” by Bon Jovi- -grabadas, “Angel” and “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” -grabadas by Aerosmith, ” Livin ‘La Vida Loca “and” She Bangs “by Ricky Martin -grabadas. Child was enshrined into the Hall of Fame of Composers of the United States in 2008. Before him, there were only two Latin American honored: the Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, in 1991, and the Cuban Ernesto Lecuona, in 1997. The sense of belonging Latin culture motivated Child, son of the composer Elena Casals to create the La Musa award honoring her, although compositions thereof were recorded by artists like Olga Guillot, Lucho Gatica, Roberto Ledesma and more recently Concha Buika. “It was very hard for her to be a songwriter and Latin in the US Still, he became part of the Composers Cuban exile organization. He died three years ago and wanted to do something to honor his life, “he said. The figurine Musa, was inspired by a sculpture made in 1954 by Lee Casals Burnham. To conform to the standards of a trophy, it was adapted by Alan LeQuire in Nashville.

Meanwhile Rudy Perez, co-founder of the Hall of Fame of Composers Latinos, has been the architect of the Latin music industry from Miami. It contributed to the creation of the Latin Recording Academy. He has 30 years of service; It has produced more than 70 albums and has composed more than 1,000 songs, some recorded by artists like Jose Feliciano, Julio Iglesias, Luis Miguel, Raul di Blasio, Cristian Castro, Christina Aguilera, Michael Bolton, Luis Fonsi, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce among others. Also motivated by honor and enforce the rights of composers in the current music scene, Perez joined Child to found the non-profit organization.

Among the honorees this year is, Beto Cuevas, vocalist and co-author of most of the subjects of the Law, who was honored with the award show called Conquistador, and believed that The Hall of Fame is recognizing the diversity of styles in Latin music, beyond the success or otherwise of the songs. “We all know that the rock does not monopolize the communication spaces, but it is a style that survives off the radio. The popular musician, actor and threw paint recalls that composing in the law without knowing if he could. “Andres Bobe, group leader (RIP) I wonder if I knew compose and I said yes without having any experience. I had the music and the intention was sought and put the letters; there had to start creating. This value gave me innocence, why composers look and that somehow we lose over time, “he said by telephone from Los Angeles where he lives. “Writing a song is an act” visceral, mystical and magical, where it is more important to feel to think, “the author of hits like” Lie “,” The Duel “or” Weavers of Illusion “. In addition to preparing for the occasion, Cuevas also be found, together with his colleagues of the Law, putting the finishing disk unpublished after 12 years of not recording touches.

For Desmond Child, the songs “are the national treasure of a country. A painting is a painting, it can break, but a song live in the air forever. Governments come and go, but the songs are. Music should be above politics. ” Three years ago, along with Rudy Perez and members of the music industry, created Hall of Fame to honor Latino Composers composers “who are the heart and soul of the music industry.” Both for himself and for Perez, the intention of the Hall is to educate the world about what is the origin of music, create a museum where the public finds out how a song is created and give it the importance it deserves to trade composer. Both founders hope to pass this award on national and international television in future editions to spread their message.

In the past the Hall of Fame has honored in elegant clothes, figures like Alejandro Sanz, Nat King Cole, Olga Guillot, Draco Rosa, Olga Tanon and Consuelo Velázquez. The selection of the honorees is based on a nominating committee consisting of artists, producers and members of the music industry. According to organizers, thousands of candidates composers of all periods of recorded music, but must take into account all the Latin American region, including Portugal. “We wrote the songs. Who they are left out in previous years; we seek a balance, for example must always be a woman and have at least one 20-year career in the composition, “he explained Child. Six of the most influential songwriters and composers of Latin music have been included in this list to be recognized with the award Musa logged Hall Of Fame Composers Latinos.

En 1979 triunfó con “Our Love Is Insane” del grupo Rouge, y “I Was Made For Loving You” del grupo KISS.
